Pros in Training
Ready to carve your path towards becoming a ski instructor? This is where your dream begins!
If you are between 14 and 18 years old, this is your chance to turn your passion for skiing into purpose. Our 9 week Instructor Development Program is designed to launch you into your journey to be a Ski Instructor, with both hands on experience and expert training every step of the way.
In the morning, you'll learn how our pro instructors organize their groups in the kids centre, you'll shadow their lessons, and gain real insight into snow school operations, policies, and procedures. In the afternoon, you'll join a structured training sessions led by internationally renowned Canadian Ski Instructors Association (CSIA) Course Conductors, where you'll be introduced to the CSIA's innovative ski technique and teaching methods.
Being a former participant of the Ski & Board School Free Ride program, Big White Freestyle Team or Big white Ski Club is a bonus but not a requirement. If you can confidently ski parallel at a controlled speed down a blue run, you're ready to go!

Inclusions:
- Nine (9) mornings (9:15am-12:00pm) helping organize children, shadow a Kids Centre instructor teaching a class, and learning off-snow procedures; with the following training emphasis:
- Weeks 1-3 – Teaching Beginner Skiers
- Weeks 4-6 – Teaching Novice Skiers
- Weeks 7-9 – Teaching Intermediate Skiers
- Nine (9) afternoons (12:45pm-3:30pm), skiing with one of our trainers as they introduce the participants to the CSIA's innovative, effective skiing techniques and teaching methods.
- Attendance in CSIA Level 1 Course at Big White (3 days, Friday, March 20, Saturday, March 21 & Sunday, March 22, 2026)
Program Requirements:
- Must be 14 to 18 years as of January 10, 2026
- Are a strong parallel skier on a blue run
- It is highly recommended that participants attend every week, however if you are not available every week, participants can only miss one (1) day out of the nine (9) scheduled Saturdays
- CSIA Level 1 Course must be completed at Big White. 3 days Friday March 20 to Sunday March 22, 2026

- Helmets are mandatory for anyone 18 and under participating in a lesson and recommended for all adults.
Ski Ability Levels All Ages
Level 1
You have never skied before, or you are learning to stop using a snowplow. Your lesson takes place in the beginner area at Happy Valley.
Level 2
You have skied before and can stop comfortably. You are now learning the fundamentals of controlling direction. Your lesson takes place in the beginner area at Happy Valley.
Level 3
You are comfortable making snowplow turns on the magic carpet and are ready to navigate busier terrain using our novice lift, Plaza Chair. Your lesson takes place on Plaza Chair.
Level 4
You can comfortably follow your instructor’s line and speed on Plaza Chair and are ready to explore green and blue terrain higher on the mountain using a snowplow. You are learning to ski confidently in a parallel stance on green and blue runs.
Level 5
You can ski parallel, in control, on groomed blue runs and are ready to increase your speed in ungroomed terrain. You are learning to adapt to changing snow conditions and terrain as you progress.
Level 6
You can confidently ski ungroomed advanced runs at speed while maintaining a parallel stance. You are learning tactics to confidently approach challenging conditions and terrain throughout the mountain.
Snowboard Ability Levels All Ages
Level 1
You have never snowboarded before, or you are learning to stop and control your speed. Your lesson takes place in the beginner area at Happy Valley.
Level 2
You have snowboarded before and can stop comfortably. You are learning the fundamentals of controlling direction. Your lesson takes place in the beginner area at Happy Valley.
Level 3
You are comfortable making linked turns on the magic carpet and are ready to navigate busier terrain using our novice lift, Plaza Chair. Your lesson takes place on Plaza Chair.
Level 4
You can comfortably follow your instructor’s line and speed on Plaza Chair and are ready to explore green and blue terrain higher on the mountain. You are looking to build confidence and control on novice and intermediate runs across the mountain.
Level 5
You can link turns with control on groomed blue runs and are ready to increase your speed in ungroomed terrain. You are learning to adapt to changing snow conditions and terrain as you progress.
Level 6
You can confidently ride ungroomed advanced runs at speed while maintaining control. You are learning tactics to confidently approach challenging terrain and conditions throughout the mountain.
