A New Chapter Begins: Globe Restaurant to Rebrand with a Boldly Canadian Twist

After nearly two decades of serving up internationally inspired cuisine at Big White Ski Resort, Globe Restaurant will close its doors on April 6, 2025—but not without a proper send-off.

The beloved dining spot will host a final après party featuring Jon Bos, celebrating an era of great food, great music, and great company.

While it’s the end of one chapter, it’s the beginning of an exciting new one. For the 2025/26 ski season, Globe will transform into a restaurant concept that’s deeply, deliciously Canadian—paying tribute to the people, stories, and ingredients that shape this country’s vibrant culinary identity.

From Global Plates to Canadian Roots

Ross Derrick


The transformation comes from Ross Derrick, Executive Chef turned owner, who opened Globe at Big White in 2008 and took full ownership in 2022. Known for pioneering the share-plate experience in the region, Ross is now turning his focus toward something even more personal: a celebration of Canadian cuisine in all its multicultural glory.

“Canadian cuisine isn’t just tourtière and maple syrup—it’s the flavours and traditions brought here by generations of immigrants,” says Derrick. “Canada is a melting pot, and our food is great because of it.”

A Personal Legacy on the Plate Ross Derrick’s own story reflects the diverse Canadian experience. Raised in Winnipeg in a Jewish neighbourhood, educated at a Jesuit school, and cared for by a Jamaican nanny, Derrick grew up surrounded by cultural contrasts that united around one thing: a love of food.

His heritage—Ukrainian, English, Scottish—runs deep, as does his passion for sharing stories through cuisine. His great-grandmother, Alice Mailhot Ross, was Canada’s first female architect, and her legacy of bold innovation is something Ross carries forward in his own way: through dishes that connect history, heritage, and flavour.

What to Expect from the New Concept

When doors reopen next season, guests can expect a menu filled with classic Canadian comfort food reimagined:

  • Bison & Venison Dishes
  • Okanagan Apple creations
  • Great-Grandma’s Split Pea & Ham Hock Soup
  • Perogies with an upscale twist
  • Maple Syrup desserts
  • Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake
  • Tableside S’mores

Drinks? Yes, and they’ll be unapologetically Canadian too. Look for Derrick’s own bourbon-style whiskey in house-crafted cocktails, along with: 

  • A Canadian Craft Beer Lounge featuring eight rotating taps from top microbreweries across the country 
  • A 100% Canadian wine list spotlighting BC, Ontario, and beyond 

The restaurant’s atmosphere will match its new culinary direction—laid-back but thoughtful, featuring a playlist of Canadian music from all decades, giving the space a nostalgic, welcoming vibe.
