Highlights from Summer 2024

As summer comes to an end, we look back on an incredible season filled with exciting events, community gatherings, and unforgettable moments at Big White.

This year, our calendar was filled with activities and events, ranging from adrenaline-pumping bike competitions and free family festivities to culinary experiences and soothing yoga sessions.

We’re so grateful to everyone who joined us from June 27 to September 2 and helped make this summer truly special. Here’s a look back at some of the season’s best moments:

Summer Music Series
Every Saturday between July 6 and August 17, the Village stage came alive with music featuring a diverse lineup of talented musicians. This year's lineup featured an array of artists, including Dan Tait, Kitty & The Rooster, Bran Sanders, Nevaeh Dyson, and Nico Boesten.

Fiv'r Fridays
Fiv'r Fridays sponsored by Fox Racing brought mountain biking enthusiasts of all levels together for a weekly race series on Big White’s challenging trails. Proceeds from the event supported the Mountain Bikers of the Central Okanagan (MTBCO), a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to trail building and maintenance. This summer, the community raised $1,450 to support MTBCO's efforts. Read more here.

Craft and Country Mountain Festival
The Craft and Country Mountain Festival on July 13 brought hundreds of visitors to enjoy the annual celebration of local craft beverages, live music and community spirit. Attendees explored 15 unique handcrafted goods, sampling local brews and ciders, and soaking up the vibrant festival atmosphere. Kitty & The Rooster a dynamic surf rock n’ roll duo from Vancouver, featuring the talented Jodie Ponto on the stand-up cocktail drumkit and the mesmerizing guitar stylings of Noah Walker, delivered an unforgettable performance that had the crowd on their feet. Inaugural Family Carnival
On July 20, Big White hosted its inaugural Summer Family Carnival, a free event that quickly became a highlight of the season. Families were treated to a day full of excitement, with a range of activities, including carnival games, crafts, and a bouncy castle, all provided at no cost. Guests were captivated by the mesmerizing performances of Kinshira Entertainment, who brought an extra touch of magic to the day.

Dog Day @ Big White
The second annual Dog Day took place on July 27, transforming the Village Centre into a playground for dogs and their owners. This event, held in partnership with Paws it Forward, featured a range of dog-friendly activities, including a dog-sized pool party, an obstacle course, paw print portraits, and a best-dressed competition. The day was filled with fun and community spirit, raising $540 to support Paws it Forward’s mission of rescuing and rehoming dogs. Read more here.

Summer Yoga Series
The Summer Yoga Series on select Saturdays in July and August, offered a peaceful retreat amidst the hustle and bustle of summer. These free yoga classes held in the Village Centre, led by local instructor Raquel Doucet provided a serene environment for participants to deepen their practice and connect with nature. Open to all skill levels, the series was a great opportunity for guests to relax and rejuvenate before the start of their day.

Olympic Viewing Party at The Woods
From July 26 to August 11, Big White hosted an Olympic Viewing Party at The Woods, celebrating the Paris Summer Olympic Games. Partnering with Coca-Cola, the event featured daily outdoor watch parties with large-screen TVs, special food and drink offerings, and prize giveaways.

Long Table Seafood Boil
The inaugural Long Table Seafood Boil on August 3 was a culinary highlight of the summer. This exclusive event featured a gourmet seafood boil with a delectable array of shrimp, crab legs, clams, mussels, and more, all paired with exquisite wines from Lightning Rock Winery. This intimate dinner for 60 guests provided a unique dining experience 6,000 feet above sea level. Read more here.

Freeride Days MTB Festival
The 6th annual Freeride Days, held from August 8 to 10, at the Slopestyle Course, was an unforgettable weekend filled with lots of action and incredible performances. As a sanctioned event on the Freeride Mountain Bike (FMB) World Tour, it attracted 30 top riders from around the world, making it a premier slopestyle competition. Hosted by slopestyle legend and course designer Tom Van Steenbergen, Freeride Days supported by the B.C. Fairs, Festivals and Events fund, stood out not only for its high level of competition but also for its inclusivity, featuring a dedicated Women's Slopestyle event. A highlight was Nicholi Rogatkin's historic 1440, securing first place in the FMB Gold slopestyle competition. Free to spectate, Freeride Days offered a complete entertainment experience and left fans eagerly anticipating next year’s event. Read more here.

Spartan Canada Trifecta Weekend
The Spartan Canada Trifecta weekend on August 24 and 25, brought over 3,000 visitors to Big White, where competitors faced a series of grueling obstacles designed to test their endurance, strength, and determination. The Spartan Race was a true test of physical and mental limits, providing a thrilling end to a summer full of adventure and excitement. Read more about the event here.

Bike Park Upgrades
By the end of the season, the Joker trail received a redesign with new wood elements, jumps, and a dynamic hip feature, perfect for those who crave speed and airtime. Stacked Deck now features "The Grizzly," a huge wooden berm sponsored by Insta360, ideal for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments. Gecko has been improved to provide a smoother intermediate route, making it more accessible, while Squirt's trail has been updated with blue berms for a better flow. Additionally, the Beginner Skills Park has new features for skill progression, and the Catapult Ranch racecourse now includes exciting new drops and gaps. Read more here.

BC Cup Downhill
From August 30 to September 1, the BC Cup, sanctioned by Cycling BC, drew top downhill mountain bikers from across Western Canada to Big White. Riders raced down the iconic Catapult Ranch course, vying for crucial points in their pursuit of the prestigious BC Cup title. Congratulations to all the participants!
