Big White Ski Resort finalist for prestigious Canadian Tourism Awards
“For many years, Big White Ski Resort was known simply as a regional mountain in the southern part of British Columbia,” says Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice President at Big White Ski Resort Ltd. “As we grew, tourists came from all over the world. We enhanced our adventure activity portfolio and now we’re starting to be recognized. This is a huge testament to the team effort that is all about running a family operation called Big White Ski Resort in supernatural British Columbia.”
Big White Ski Resort is listed as finalist alongside Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism and Red Rock Adventure in St. Martins, New Brunswick. Previous winners include Alma, Quebec’s Traversée du lac Saint-Jean à vélo and Churchill, Manitoba’s Churchill Wild.
Winners are judged on the following criteria: promoting visitor participation and personal challenge; providing outdoor experiences that showcase and promote regional tourism; contributing to or enhancement of the tourism industry; commiting to visitor/participant satisfaction and product development; and fostering an appreciation and enjoyment of the great outdoors.
Big White’s application highlighted the resort’s diverse ski terrain, long list of non-skiing adventure activities and summer schedule – as well as its commitment to teaching first-time skiers and snowboarders, promoting Okanagan-based food and wine and investing in environmentally friendly projects.
Big White also wants to congratulate the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association on being a finalist for Accor Hotels Marketing Campaign of the Year Award for its Route 97 campaign.
