Inaugural 'Rock the Foundation' Fundraiser Brings Groovy Vibes to Support Mental Healthcare in Kelowna

Posted On: August 26, 2024 |
On Saturday, August 24, hundreds of community members and local business leaders came together to groove and give back at the inaugural “Rock the Foundation” event, proudly presented by Big White Ski Resort.

This electrifying fundraiser, held at a scenic farm in East Kelowna, successfully raised $60,000 for the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) Foundation, setting the stage for a new annual tradition dedicated to enhancing mental healthcare in the region.

Organized by a dedicated group of local entrepreneurs, “Rock the Foundation” was more than just a night of great live music—it was a powerful demonstration of community spirit and collaboration aimed at supporting mental health services at KGH. Despite a rainy start, the event’s Woodstock-themed atmosphere, complete with vibrant performances by local bands, brought an unforgettable, joyous vibe that permeated the crowd. Thanks to Avalon Event Rentals' timely provision of a large tent, attendees were able to enjoy an intimate and lively evening filled with music, dancing, and camaraderie.

Attendees were transported back to the iconic Woodstock era with performances by two phenomenal local bands: No Girlz Allowed and ReX. Both bands brought a unique sound, creating a dynamic and energetic atmosphere that kept the dance floor full all night.

The event was set against the charming backdrop of a farm in East Kelowna, providing a rustic setting that enhanced the evening’s theme of nostalgia and community.

The event underscored the power of local businesses and individuals coming together to make a positive impact on healthcare in Kelowna. The collaboration between sponsors such as Gorman Bros. Lumber, Rush Ihas Hardwick LLP, Andre’s Electronic Experts, Troika, and Callahan Properties, alongside Big White Ski Resort as the title sponsor, highlighted a shared commitment to supporting the community.

David Rush, Chair of Rock the Foundation, expressed his excitement about the event’s success, saying, “This was my first year putting together the event, and I was thrilled by the support of the community. It was a super great event. The dance floor was full, and with our Woodstock theme, it felt like a maritime kitchen party on steroids.”

Michael J. Ballingall, Senior Vice President of Big White Ski Resort, echoed these sentiments, stating, “We were really excited to be a part of this inaugural event. Big White Ski Resort has been a long-time supporter of the KGH Foundation, and we are deeply passionate about supporting the associated care facilities, including vital mental health resources in our community. We believe in giving back and making a positive impact on the healthcare services that benefit everyone in Kelowna.”

Plans are already in motion for next year’s event, building on the success of this inaugural celebration. With the community’s continued support, “Rock the Foundation” aims to grow and make an even more significant impact on mental healthcare in Kelowna.
