Kelowna, BC: From the writer of the hit movies SKI SCHOOL, a new snowboard comedy franchise called SHRED has now begun principal photography. The feature films SHRED and its sequel, SHRED II, are being shot back to back on location at Big White Ski Resort and Silver Star Ski Resort in the picturesque Canadian Okanagan.
SHRED is a motion picture that tells the story of two washed-up pro snowboarders from the 90s who attempt to cash in on the fantastic growth of the sport by starting their own snowboard camp. Hoping to recapture their former glory, they begin by sharing their wacky wisdom with a group of up and coming young snowboarders. The story takes them from the run down ski hill where they grew up to a major event at one of the biggest resorts in the west.
SHRED II finds the young riders from the first film living the life of rock stars, with photo shoots, video stardom and parties threatening the will of the team to stay together and maintain their commitment to the true essence of the sport.
The Shred movies feature a hilarious cast including Tom Green (most recognized for his hit MTV show The Tom Green Show, as well as his work on the films Charlie’s Angels, Stealing Harvard, and Road Trip), Dave England (of Jackass fame and previous pro snowboarder) and Renee Renee (actor, snowboarder, skateboarder and well known host of the Slam City Jam skateboard contest). In addition the film also has appearances by numerous pro snowboard riders including the notorious Wildcats, Ross Rebagliati and more. The films were written and are being directed by veteran David Mitchell, who has produced and directed over 25 feature films throughout his career.
To ensure credibility with the sophisticated scrutiny of the action-sports audience, SHRED has employed the consulting expertise of snowboard industry experts, who advise and supervise authentication of all facets of production: cast, dialogue, stunts, set dressing and wardrobe. A cast combining Hollywood talent and A-list snowboarders is sure to make SHRED the first of its kind in the action-sports comedy genre.
Filming of the SHRED movies commenced on February 27, 2006 and is scheduled to continue until April, 2007. The SHRED franchises are fully Canadian productions with SHRED being produced by Shred Films Inc. and SHRED II is being produced by Barge Films Inc. Both films are being distributed by Peace Arch Entertainment, one of Canada’s leading film and television companies. Commercial release of the films is expected prior to the start of the 2007/08 ski/snowboard season.
