February 25th, 2008 | | Hi there,
We just wanted to send a note of "Thanks" to you for the excellent service and ski lessons that many from our party received during our visit there last week. Our daughter participated in the Group lessons, and enjoyed them thoroughly. We also took private boarding and ski lessons. Stu Turnbull gave three of us the best ski lessons we've ever had, and was very kind. I personally feel that I improved dramatically because of his help. He even assisted us with a dinner party by referring us to the chef at Carver's, where we had an excellent, customized Indian meal!
Thank you, Terry Brasino Terry | | February 19th, 2008 | | We have just finished our 5th visit to Big White. Again, we had a phenomenal family vacation. We sometimes end our holiday visiting relatives in Calgary and ski Lake Louise. We just want to say, the snow doesn’t compare – Big White is a better ski. Also, you always refill the tissue’s in the lift line. It is a small thing, but it IS GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!! That was another thing my 13th year old noticed and commented on. Tamara | | February 19th, 2008 | | We just spent the weekend at your resort with friends. It was our first visit to Big White. But it certainly won't be our last. We had a wonderful time and your resort is fabulous!! We spent our days skiing on your beautiful runs -- chasing down Blues Cruz stamps -- and then spent our evenings tubing and enjoying the Village. Everyone we ran into that was associated with your resort was friendly and helpful. Bar none, it was one of our all time favorite vacations. We only wish you were a little closer so we could visit more frequently. Rest assured, we'll be back and we'll bring more friends and family.
Thanks for everything,
The Whitney's The Whitney's | | April 30th, 2007 | | Living in New Brunswick means we are a long way from the great ski slopes of Western Canada and usually this means the first day of any ski trip is totally taken up with travelling. However I had a pleasant surprise, in late March, when I travelled to the Okanagan for some fantastic spring skiing. I was able to leave Moncton in the morning and was making turns at Silver Star that afternoon. Thanks to a great West Jet connection, out of Moncton at 06:15 and into Kelowna at 10:44, I was making turns by 13:30. There was even time in Toronto for a Tim’s and a bite. So when you are planning your next ski trip out West don’t forget that with both Big White and Silver Star you can be skiing or riding on the same day you leave home.

My family and I spent our first full day at Big White yesterday after arriving here from Hong Kong on Friday for a week long stay. My three children (15, 13 and 9 years) have never skied and my most recent experience dates back about 15 years. We arranged a full day lesson yesterday and we had the pleasure of being assigned to Mark Shaxted.
I was very impressed indeed with Mark's skill and instructional ability. He immediately established an effective rapport with each of us, especially with Katie, my youngest. He was able to offer the kids the very basic instruction they needed and he made it enjoyable
and fun. Taking into account the sensibilities of teenagers, he pitched his instruction at an appropriate level and did not make them feel uncomfortable. On the contrary Mark's enthusiasm and encouragement brought out the best in them.
My wife and I are interested in purchasing real estate here and Mark proved to be an excellent ambassador for your mountain. He provided us with a terrific introduction to Big White and set the tone for what promises to be a very good holiday.
Incidentally, Mark also maintained a watchful awareness of what was going on around him. Without inconveniencing us he assisted a very small girl who was unhappy and seemed to have been overlooked by her own instructor.
I would be grateful if you would pass along our sincere thanks to Mark. We wish him every success with his upcoming examinations. Martin Baggaley | | February 19th, 2007 |
I have just arrived home after spending a week with my family at Big White. We are a family of regular travellers who enjoy holiday’s world wide but I feel that I have to write to thank you and your staff for what can only be described as an amazing holiday.
The first problem we experienced was that my son, who has downs syndrome, could not ski. The guys in the equipment rental shop patiently and kindly fitted him out with all of the gear. He then went for his lesson but could not get the skis on. The ski instructor was amazing – she tried everything to get him sorted out but it was not to be. We disappointedly returned to the rental shop to return the equipment. The guys in the rental shop immediately took control of everything! Sorting out a full refund for the skiing and making it their mission to ensure that Ben got to the top of the mountain. What fantastic service, what fantastic people! They suggested that we take Ben on the snow limo. I booked immediately.
We spent 2 hours on the snow limo with Charlie and Slade. Now these two are really special people. They went out of their way to ensure that Ben and I had an experience to remember. It was that great that we booked to go again on our final day.
We had further injury issues and our youngest girl fell on the slopes, when trying to help a very young child get out of some trees, and lost her skis. Jeff in the equipment hire shop again dealt with the situation for us, sending out some of his guys to find the skis.
This level of service, kindness and all together friendliness is above and beyond anything that I have ever experienced on any holiday. You have managed to bring together some amazing people right through from bar staff in the Happy Valley Day Lodge to the guys at the top of the mountain helping to get the snow limo off of the lifts. I thank and congratulate you and your staff for giving us the most fantastic week – we will be back and we will be letting everyone know where to come for what must be the best in everything that a ski holiday can offer
Many, many thanks
Ian Champion | | September 19th, 2006 | | My name is Owen King and I am 16 years old. I took up skiing last year and went to Canada for my first big ski trip. We stayed at Silver Star resort for a week and went to Big white afterwards for a days skiing. I know these being the first resorts I have visited I dont really have anything to compare them to but can I just say that these two are just pure perfection, both have over 100 runs, receive great Okanagan powder which is groomed to perfection and overall have a great atmosphere for families and seasoned skiers alike. Big White has by far a bigger village and offers better apres-ski entertainment but Silver Stars' mountain village is not to be ignored either. Owen King | | April 25th, 2006 | | Very rarely in our busy lives do we take the time to say 'Well done.'
However I feel compelled to write to you, and commend you and your staff, for the magnificence of the Big White Ski School. Your teaching and care were superlative.
My two daughters, Phoebe and Georgia Freeman, have just completed nine half day sessions with you. Not only did the children enjoy themselves immensely but they achieved so much more than they have ever achieved in a European ski school.
My fondest memory of the holiday was our first ever family ski down the Humming Bird run. ( Which we did after only 3 mornings in ski school for the girls, and our youngest had never made it down a green run before. ) The girls progress was, in the words of many of your instructors "Awesome". All credit due to your staff. By the end of their 9 sessions with you, we were all hurtling down the blue runs.
Not only are you methods of teaching amazing but the fact that so many of your staff greeted us outside of lesson time and engaged the children, even though they may not have been taught by them on that specific day was marvellous.
Two members of staff stood out particularly for our family. Drew and Aurilia. Not only were they fantastic teachers but were friendly, fun and enthusiastic on and off the piste to children and adults alike.
I may even take lessons as well next year because the Ski School at Big White has instilled so much confidence in me, I might even be able to iron out few old well established bad habits of my own!
Once again thank you so much, and well done on a magnificently run school. Your staff should be very proud of themselves. Louise Freeman | | April 24th, 2006 | | My family and I travelled to Big White for the first 2 weeks of February to have our first skiing holiday overseas and I must say that Big White lived up to everything we expected. The snow, the village, the snow, the people, the snow, the staff and the great snow made the long trip worthwhile.
Congratulations to you as a resort company on great facilities and a constant concern that everyone has a good time makes Big White stand out from all the others. The staff you employ from all around the world add to the great Canadian hospitality we enjoyed for 2 glorious weeks. If I can only work out a way to work and live there? Maybe I will have to work on opening an office there?
Anyway, congratulations again on a great resort and one well worth all the accolades it receives.
John Boast | | March 30th, 2006 | | My sister and I visited Big White between March 11 and March 18, 2006. We both had a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable holiday, largely due to the friendly staff, excellent facilities and well organised activities. Furthermore, at each of the activities we attended, such as the Taste of Big White, Big White Idol and Ladies Day, we were made to feel more than welcome and our needs were well attended to.
I have previously skied at numerous resorts throughout North America, Europe and Australasia and have worked at Perisher Blue Ski Resort (Australia) and Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation (USA) and have been extremely impressed by Big White's superior client service standards and facilities.
I must particularly commend Oliver, an English ski instructor, with whom I took a level 5 ski lesson. I found his instructions to be extremely helpful and well delivered in a friendly and professional manner. As a result of his instructions my skiing technique, in particular my approach to moguls, has improved immensely. I have since found that, rather than avoid mogul runs, I actually seek them out to ensure I continue to improve my technique.
We also found the ski school ticket sellers and the ski and snowboard rental staff very friendly and helpful.
I would like to express our appreciation and thank all of the staff at Big White who made our holiday one we will never forget. We both look forward to returning to Big White in the near future. Debra Clem (Brisbane, Australia) | | March 15th, 2006 | | Hello there, my family and I are anxious to give you feedback from our wonderful vacation at Big White Resort (March 7-11). We stayed in a great condo at the Stonebridge (#104) and will excitedly plan to return to that condo!
Every aspect of our visit to Big White was exceptional! Starting with every single member of staff - including the shuttle drivers, check-in staff, restaurateurs, shopkeepers, instructors...and everyone else. What extraordinary attention is given to guests and their families. The attitude of every person working at and for Big White was exemplary and surprising. It's clear we are settling for far too little at our home in Toronto! Thank you...
It's obvious that with the plans for expansion at Big White, the resort will continue to be appealing to skiers and their families. The village, the facilities, the condo options.
We'll look forward to visiting again in the not too distant future with several members of our family (9 siblings, their spouses; 28 nieces & nephews and 26 great nieces and nephews!)
Thank you for this wonderful experience. A memory that will be with us for a very long time... Ann Dempster | | January 31st, 2006 | | We just wanted to pass on what a great dining experience we had at 'Carvers'. We had a late breakfast, skied all day with family and friends and then went to 'Carvers' for an early dinner. I consider myself a hard core skier, so to rave about a restaurant when the ski/snowboard conditions are as good as they are seems counter to my personality. However, the portions, presentation and service were great and all left satisfied, as we rolled down the hill! Be warned if you order the lasagna be very, very hungry as this is the largest lasagna portion I have ever seen a restaurant serve. Needless to say some came home! Chicken neptune and the ribs flavourful and filling!
Thanks to Marty for making the evening one to remember and see you all again soon. Good on the new management. Brian H., Family & Friends - Kelowna, BC | | June 9th, 2005 | We ran a contest in conjunction with the Great Outdoors where you had to, in 20 words or less, explain what you learned from the show. Here are some of the comments:
"I've learnt that Big White resort's the most beautiful place in the world and one day, I AM going there."
"That it is John Farnahm's favourite resort and that I want to go there really desperatly!!!!"
"That it's an incredible resort and that it is not as expensive as European and US resorts."
"Best powder snow in canada with long runs that suit beginners to experts lots to do for all the family."
"It's a magical winter wonderland. Plenty to keep the whole family occupied. Somewhere I definitely want to go to!"
"2nd Largest ski resort in British Columbia sister resort to Silver Star started by the Australian who stared at Mt. Hotham."
| | April 4th, 2005 | Alison and Gill,
Our group had such a great time in Big White this week. You guys took very good care of us. We skied with hosts on at least four occasions and they were all wonderful to be around. The shops were great, the front desk at the hotel was very responsive and housekeeping took good care of us. The race crew were so considerate and responsive, despite some challenges with the timing line. It was so much fun. We of course LOVED the mountain, but it was the people that will bring us back. You guys were the best. We enjoyed gun barrel coffee and of course the wonderful food at the Kettle Valley Steakhouse. Many of our group enjoyed shooting pool at the White Crystal. We know without a doubt the Big White Ski School, in particularly Gerald, has had a huge impact on Scott’s success.
Scott has won this year:
- The Buller Cup Snowboard Alpine at Mt Buller
- The Rossignol Cup Snowboard Alpine at Falls Creek
- The XTM Series Boarder X at Mt Buller
- The Victorian Interschools Snowboard Alpine at Mt Buller
- The Victorian Interschools Boarder X at Mt Buller
- The Australian Boarder X at Perisher Blue
He has just successfully completed the camp for the Australian Half Pipe Development Squad run by the Olympic Winter Institute of Australia at Perisher where he was the youngest participant.
We would like to thank the Big White Ski School Kids Centre for the expert tution and the care they provide. Our children feel a part of the family-like atmosphere that it has and look forward to returning each year.
Our son Tim, who is a member of the Big White Racers, will stay for the entire season this year & go to the Big Community School.
Our children have participated in many ski schools and all believe Big White Ski School to be the best.
So to Bill, Jason, Gerald, Dave, Bunko, Lindsay, Corey, Sam, Meg, Pat and Brian and all at Kids Centre (names supplied by Scott Sean and Tim) thank you and we look forward to our return later this year to rip up your new terrain park.
Kind regards,
Celia & Phil James
Celia & Philip James | | April 1st, 2004 | | 1. We had amazingly wonderful weather! Two days of wonderful sunshine! Great views stretching in all directions.
2. We had three clear nights in a row, with a bright, full moon
shining over us, adding a special touch of magic to our night skiing!
3. The "Country Coachways" bus was comfortable, the driver was helpful and friendly, and most importantly: showed up on time, both at the airport and at the hotel on our way back.
4. The staff at Big White were all very pleasant and helpful, from the
smiling lift operators to the warm receptionist at the Inn.
5. The group reservations office staff was excellent in putting the
whole package together for us and answering all our questions in a
prompt fashion.
6. We were grateful when the group sales people came to our aid one more time when one of our members lost her multi-day lift ticket pass on the first day! This lady in our group wanted to wear different ski outfits on different days, so she did not want to attach her lift ticket permanently to one of them. The method she chose to attach the ticket was not very sturdy, and that's how she ended up losing the ticket somewhere on the slopes, ... most likely somewhere in the powder. Fortunately, your staff was able to give us a replacement ticket.
7. A lot of the people in our group were impressed with the variety of
choices available for restaurants and bars within the village.
8. Several of us really enjoyed the ice skating!
9. The Inn at Big White was very comfortable and well equipped
(microwave, refrigerator, eating utensils, hair dryer, fireplace). We
also really enjoyed watching the sunset from the hot tub and warm
swimming pool.
10. On several occasions throughout our stay, people made positive
comments on Big White. People said things like: a) "This is the best club trip ever!" b) "Thanks for putting this trip together! It's
wonderful!" c) "Let's come back here again!"
Emilio Trampuz | | March 24th, 2004 | | wanted to thank you for offering the wonderful ski school program that you operate for children after school. My daughter, Holly Brown recently participated in the program via Watson Road Elementary. She had an absolutely fabulous experience. She had never skied before and is now solidly hooked. She remarked to me while on the chair at Big White a few days after her last lesson that she was 'born to ski'. She is 9 years old.
I wanted to thank you and to commend the program supervisor 'Sherri' and her staff for this outstanding introductory program. It is affordable, accessible and very appropriate for kids....right down to the video on the bus which helped manage initial fear and post skiing fatigue!
Without the reasonable and accessible after school program we may not have become involved with skiing. Undertaking a new sport seemed a bit daunting to us as parents. It was a wonderful and positive introduction. Betty Brown | | January 24th, 2004 | | We skied Big White in Jan '03 and found it just fantastic! The kids ski school is brilliant, as is the adults ski school. One interesting feature of the ski schools are you purchase your lessons, then decide each day whether you take them in the morning or afternoon or not at all! You see, they mark your ski lesson ticket off only when you have a lesson. No more regimental European “must be there at 10 am to take your lessons”! Oh, one other most important piece of info for all your UK skiers — Big White has “Snow Hosts!” They are volunteers who start 15 minutes before the lessons and will take small groups of skiers around the mountain to familiarize you with all the various runs! They are not there to teach you how to ski, but do an excellent job in showing you the types of runs you wish to try. An hour or two skiing with them (at no cost or perhaps a coffee at the end) is a full workout in itself. So for those who are or think they are reasonable intermediates, I would suggest hooking up with one of the Snow Hosts; they wear bright yellow jackets and are volunteers who just love Big White! Ski-in Ski-out at its very best! Great Snow too!
P.S. It had been 14 years since we skied Europe, and this experience in Canada was just brilliant! Sorry if this feedback is too long but I've just been reading the daily snow report on the web for Big White and just need to return sooner rather than later! Have fun wherever you ski!!!! David & Irene | | June 22nd, 2003 | | We stayed at the White Crystal Inn, in Superior Kitchenette rooms, which were equipped with microwave, a stove cooktop, and refrigerator. Having the ability to make breakfast at their leisure was an aspect that many in my group liked. Big White should be in the dictionary as the definition of a “ski-in, ski-out resort.” The convenience of literally walking out the door and putting your skis on is only matched by being able to ski to the door when you are finished skiing. Although there had not been as much snowfall as usual, the snow conditions were very good during our stay and we were able to hunt out some very good snow in the woods.
I am looking forward to our next trip to Big White, hopefully in 2005. I think that we may aim for the beginning of March next time, as long as it does not coincide with the Canadian Provincial holiday periods. Jeffrey Meyers | | May 13th, 2003 | | We checked into our lodging at the Inn at Big White and everyone was pleased at the efficiency and friendliness of the staff. Exploration of the hotel after check-in put more smiles on our group's faces as the amenities were everything we had hoped for.
Several of our group just couldn't wait to try the Okanogan snow and although it was past time for the day lifts to close, made several runs on the night skiing lifts before dinner. We found that there were ample varieties of restaurant fare to sample during our stay from Swiss to Greek and all well prepared and served.
his was the first trip in 10 years where there were no complaints from the group and most wanted to return the very next season. We won't return in 2004, but rest assured that we'll be back.
Walt Prest | | May 9th, 2003 | | The restaurants were all very good. The Swiss Bear was one of the groups favorites. Our lunch at Snowshoe Sam's worked out really well.
We had the little area in the pub by the fireplace. You could almost ski right to it, depending on which was you came towards the village.
The food was good and at pretty reasonable prices.
Karen Kelly | | April 22nd, 2003 | | Hi,
We have just returned to Europe after skiing in Big White for 10 days. WOW, what a fantastic experience AND what GREAT snow !!! We left heavy-hearted BUT will definitely return - maybe next year !
Thanks for the wonderful job you have done on Snow Ghost - keeping everyone updated on developments etc.
Hope you have a lovely summer Heather Halahan-Gibson | | April 14th, 2003 | | Thinking back to my first experience of learning to ski at Big White, the first memory that springs to mind is me at the age of seven, going down the Plaza Chair’s Woodpecker at what seemed to be terminal velocity. Looking back, nearly a decade and a half later, Big White, with its huge variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain, provided the perfect hill in which to learn and develop both my skiing and snowboarding ability. The fact that Big White provides a breathtaking view of the picturesque Okanagan Valley, as well as a rapidly expanding village area, only adds to the excellent skiing experience. After snowboarding on some of the other prominent mountains (Whistler, Louise, Kicking Horse) in western Canada, Big White still remains at the top of my list. Now, thirteen years after not being able to stop on the beginner’s run, I am still out of control; I just can’t stop snowboarding at Big White.
Mona Belcher | | April 9th, 2003 | | Each year, after spending approximately thirty hrs. + travelling to & from Canada, I think to myself “I don’t know if I can do this again next year”.
Then I remember the great times I had at Big White, after which I forget all about the travelling & start counting down to next March.
You should be proud of your Team at B/W, their attitude to work, & professionalism is second to none, and everyone I had dealings with went out of their way to be helpful.
This year is my second visit to Big White, & so long as I can still board I’ll be coming back.
Many thanks for yet another great holiday, & I’ll see you next year
Glen Schafer | | April 3rd, 2003 | |
We went back to Big White this year because we had such a good time last year - John is an 'expert' skier and last year I was a novice (aged 41!).
Our children are 9 and 5. Big White works for us (and we would like to go
back) because it really suits all of us - a true family resort with something for everyone (we noticed more English families this year but we were still in a small minority) Anne Cheese | | April 2nd, 2003 | | Thanks for the great day..
My family and friends had a great week.. You're doing a great job...
Yesterdays race event was surely a highlight..
Michael Guertin | | March 21st, 2003 | | I wish to bring to you attention my complete satisfaction with the Free Ride Program. I believe this program has the “Best Value” of any other program on the mountain!
My nine year old son MacIntyre participated in the Sunday morning program for the last ten weeks. He loved the “Free Ride” concept of exploring the mountains with safety and instruction. His coach Jamie Forbes was absolutely fabulous from his morning greeting to the safety he instilled in MacIntyre.
Again Free Ride Camp is a fabulous program. Keep up the great work Big White! Roselind Thompson | | March 17th, 2003 | | We returned to Windermere last evening after a wonderful ski holiday in the Okanagan. Big White was also" awesome" and snow fell almost continuously for the two days we were there. I want to thank you for showing me Silver Star in style and we will retain fond memories of the hospitality, the ski hill and the ambience of the entire resort.
Cam & Eloise Berry | | March 16th, 2003 | | Just wanted to thank Big White for a fabulous week of skiing. We now know why it is the #1 resort for families! Great snow, varied terrain, and lots of family events. We loved taking part in the torch light parade and the carnival night. The accommodation was so convenient and first class. Skiing with ski pro Leslie Morgan took us all to a new level. THANKS from the Sehl's, Deb, Mike, Ben, John, Jeff and Emily.
Hoping to see you next Christmas!
Waterloo, Ontario.
Michael Sehl | | March 12th, 2003 | | I wanted to let you know, that your resort by far exceeded our expectations and has been the most wonderful ski vacation that we have ever had.
We plan on coming back again next season, and probably several seasons to come.
Your staff was friendly and wonderful wherever we went.
We had 7 children in the Kid's center taking lessons and they said that they loved your staff, and can't wait to come back next year.
Linda Hutchinson | | March 9th, 2003 | | G'day, my name is Dave Andrews and I just spent a week skiing your mountain. I did not stay at the hill, I stayed at a condo in Kelowna. I am from Ottawa and I was amazed with your facilities. I have skied out east and I have skied Whistler-Blackcomb, and Big White is number one. Best snow I have ever skied, nicest people working for you. The people in the stores are so nice and personable.
The lifties are awesome, always talking to you, always willing
to do whatever for you. Me and my friends talked with a lifty, Lauren Fullerton, and she was very nice. I just thought I would write and tell you how impressed with your resort I was.
Thank you for the amazing time.
Dave Andrews | | March 8th, 2003 | | We recently spent 4 days at Big White and 3 days at Silver Star after winning a prize last year at Thredbo in Australia. We had a fantastic time, loved both places and were so impressed with the facilities for children, particularly at Big White. Benjamin our 8 year old had a great time and is skiing like a champ as is Jonathan who just turned 5 year old (yesterday ) who was skiing blue runs at Silver Star withoutany problem!
The snow was terrific. I think its going to be very hard to ski again in Australia/New Zealand after this experience! We
found the staff at both resorts to be really friendly and
helpful and the accommodation to be of a very high standard. You certainly will be seeing us again in the very near future. We have already bored all our friends about how wonderful the skiing is at both resorts.
